Insperity Championship defending champion Brad Faxon will do his best this week to repeat on The Woodlands CC's Tournament Course. He won in 2011 at -10 (after posting 65 on Saturday) without hitting a single shot on Sunday; torrential rains left the course unplayable that day, and the final 18 holes were washed away.

On Saturday, after the final tournament group is on the course, the Insperity Championship hosts a gathering of golf legends unlikely ever to be equaled: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino will take part in a three-group, three-man scramble that also includes Don January, Miller Barber, Gene Littler, David Graham and Dave Stockton. Collectively, these nine men (with serious help from Nicklaus and Palmer) account for 256 PGA Tour wins, 46 majors and 141 Champions Tour victories.

If anyone can come up with the names of three guys who will help Tiger Woods fill out the 2040 gathering of a similarly quartet, I'd love to hear who that'll be. Despite his recent performance, he'll deserve a spot on that short list, but the others have yet to distinguish themselves from rest of what is an extremely talented PGA Tour these days.

Daily admission to the Insperity Championship is free. Saturday is clearly the "main event" with that nine-man scramble of legends going out late, but let's not forget that there also is an outstanding golf competition among dozens of the game's greatest players taking place all week at The Woodlands CC.
