Mornings on 790 The Sports Animal

So what kind of accent IS that, anyway?

Brad Davies comes to 790 The Sports Animal from his hometown of Utica, N.Y., by way of Rochester, a city just northwest of Buffalo. Thus that thick, obnoxious utterance.

Davies began broadcasting in 1989 – his senior year of high school – by producing and co-hosting one of Utica’s top FM morning shows. In 1996, Brad started doing sports talk radio at News/Talk 950 WIBX. In 2000, Brad packed up his rusty Blazer and his trusty basset hound, Bogie, and headed to Rochester to anchor morning sports on six different morning shows in three different markets before heading down the hall at 9 a.m. to host his own show on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK. There, he earned his nickname “the Curse.”

During his tenure, the hometown favorite Buffalo Bills did not make one playoff appearance, while the city’s consensus favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees, did not win a World Series.

In other words, don’t expect the Texans to turn around anytime soon.

Brad brings to Houston a deep love for baseball, basketball and football. He's also a huge golf fan. Though a helpless hacker on the links, Davies is hoping to caddie for Jim Nantz and Fred Couples, whenever they return to town.

Joining him on his latest journey is his wife, Amy, and his buddy, Bogie. The bride and canine both have watched Brad kick more furniture and scream at his TV during more sporting events than they care to remember. It can be especially rough when his beloved Syracuse Orange turns in one of their patented clunckers on the gridiron.

Brad also loves the lowly New York Knicks, for whom he recently urged his listeners to petition for FEMA relief.

Since moving to Houston, Davies has declared himself a free agent for any softball team needing a great stick and some slick leather. Although some of his former softball teammates suggest that he'll have a tough time adjusting to the diamonds deep in the heart of Texas, Brad insists he’s “really, really good.”

Brad is also an avid reader and loves classic cinema. And he's a big fan of former President John F. Kennedy, even scheduling his wedding on the 40th anniversary of his assassination just so he’d remember his anniversary and avoid upsetting his wife.

Among Brad's dislikes are high gas prices, slow people in the fast lane, and the New York Mets.

Brad has been preparing for his excursion to H-town by making his family and friends refer to him as "Tex."

"Tex," Amy and Bogie reside in Katy.
Craig Roberts grew up in Illinois but was raised by Texans.

Craig's mother, grandfather and uncle were all from Aransas Pass. None had jobs, so Craig decided to work on the radio, which had recently been invented. He is hoping his latetest radio gig will work out. He's had radio jobs at several other stations in town, but those stations are now all-weird, all the time.

He has spent over 30 years in TV, ('cause it pays better), and 27 of those years have been in Houston. Craig invented "Sports Sunday" on Channel 2. He also invented and currently hosts "Sports Off Center" on Channel 55.

Craig worked all over the place before coming to Houston in 1980. He claims his worst job was being a Marine in Vietnam. "They were really rude," says Craig.

He says his most lasting memory of early broadcasting in Houston was seeing newsman Ron Stone naked. It wasn't something he wanted to report to the public.

Craig played baseball in high school and at Southern Illinois University. "Many know it as Harvard, but we downplay that," says Craig.

He has two grown children, both of whom are really smart and very attractive. He only takes credit for the smart part.

Maggie is definitely the "rookie" of the group, with this being her first broadcasting job after college.

A native of Colorado, Maggie graduated with honors and a bachelor of science degree in journalism from the University of Colorado. GO BUFFS!

She definitely made her mark at CU. You could hear her breaking the latest local news on NewsTeam Boulder, see her on stage in plays, or catch her on the homecoming float and at football games with her sorority sisters.

After graduating in May 2005, Maggie studied at Harvard where she earned a masters degree in theatre from the Moscow Art Theatre. Then, she decided to move closer to her family and give Houston a try. She has been here a year now, and Houston continues to grow on her.

Maggie has done a variety of things from appearing in a commercial with Yao Ming, to doing voiceover work for Japanese anime films. She even nannied for Rocket Ryan Bowen.

In her spare time, Maggie enjoys kickboxing, Pilates, sun bathing, movies, going to the theatre, great Mexican food and — of course — attending sporting events. She especially likes to point out all the cute players. And give fashion advice to the fans.

Maggie is greatful for the opportunity to join 790 The Sports Animal and looks forward to giving Houston her unique take on sports. You never know what this blonde might say!
Natalie Fitzgerald is a true sports FAN!

Now, as Natalie would tell you, that does not mean that she knows every nuance of every game, and certainly not every player who has ever donned a uniform. However, she is truly emotional about sports (isn’t every woman emotional?) and is an out-and-out Philly fan.

From the Eagles to the Phillies (she draws the line at the 'Sixers!), there’re not too many games that she’s not intently watching at home, forcing the rest of her family into another room so she can yell at the TV as much as she wants without repercussions.

Natalie and her husband, the “Sarge”, moved to Houston back in ’96. They have two boys, ages 8 and 2. The Sarge insists that the boys be raised as fans of the Houston teams, but much to his chagrin there are more Eagles and Phillies T-shirts in their wardrobe than shirts for the Texans and Astros. Let’s face it ... once you’ve heard Natalie on the air, you know it’s a fight he can’t win!

Natalie will hang with the boys from 7 to 10 every morning, talking traffic and anything else Brad and Carl send her way. Our only concern is sending her into the locker room for the next game ... we’re just not sure she’ll ever come back!
