Last week's CMC Communications game of the week on SportsTalk 790 featured defending Class 5A state champion Pearland. The Oilers defeated Fort Bend Kempner, 27-7.

This week's game of the week features another team that advanced to the JerryDome last December.

The Class 4A, Division II runner-up La Marque Cougars play host to Houston Sterling from Etheredge Stadium. Live broadcast starts at 7 p.m. on SportsTalk 790.

The Cougars have a host of players returning from last year's squad, including star running back Tim Wright, along with quarterback Emanuell Williams, receiver Brian Allen and linebacker Ken Butler.

Last season, Wright rushed for 2,368 yards and 30 touchdowns, despite playing with two sprained ankles for most of the playoffs.

However, there were changes to the Cougars in the offseason. Dr. Mike Jackson replaced Darrell Jordan as head coach. Jackson is former from Houston Chavez.

La Marque (1-1) lost its season opener to Rosenberg Terry, 22-21. However, they rebounded last week with a 75-6 beat down on Houston Wheatley. It was the most points scored by a La Marque Cougars squad.

The Cougars also got a good boost with transfer Dittrich Bunton being cleared to play by the University Interscholastic League last week. Bunton plays on both sides of the ball.

Sterling (2-0) is off to a strong start, having taken down Houston Jones and Houston Furr.

Running back Jarvis Duckworth has rushed for 348 yards and six touchdowns already. However, the Raiders have passed for just 80 yards.

La Marque will be heavy favorites in this game, as it looks to reclaim its status as one of the Houston area's most exciting teams.
