Charlie Pallilo grew up in Bayport on Long Island, N.Y. Through high school, Charlie was a competitive and pretty damn good tennis player, but he realized at an early age that playing at Wimbledon or in a World Series or Super Bowl "was not in my future."
"From my preteen years, my design was on a career in sports," Charlie says. At age 12, he read Marv Albert's biography, "Yessss!" and his path began.
Like Marv, Bob Costas, Dick Stockton, and many other notables, Charlie attended Syracuse University and was a Rhodes Scholar candidate nominee along the way to earning bachelor's and master's degrees.
Out of school, Charlie's first full-time professional job was in Morgantown, W. Va. In April 1989, after 9½ months in Morgantown, he moved to Houston and joined the staff at KTRH. There, he worked up the ranks, first starting talk show duties in 1990.
After 10 years at KTRH, he moved on to SportsRadio 610 in August 1999. Some five years later, he's now taken on the new and exciting challenge of helping launch The Sports Animal.
"I admit that when I moved down here," Charlie says, "the thought was a couple of years in Houston would help me along, and the next stop would be back in the Northeast. But the career went well, Houston is a terrific place to live with tremendous diversity in almost all areas, and this is the place for me. Very few 75-degree January days in New York City."

The college football season starts tonight. Among the games, Art Briles's first with Baylor. 12 point home dog vs. Wake Forest.

Phil Steele joins us Thursdays 4-4:30 for the college football preview.
Today is Thursday!

If only you knew who gave Rick Smith the idea to restructure Ahman Green's contract!
If cut, Green would struggle to get a job elsewhere. But it's not like the Texans have a solid alternative.
Now Green has to prove he's not washed up in terms of ability to stay healthy.

45 years ago today.
Regardless of one's political persuasion, it's a neat coincidence that tonight Barack Obama formally accepts the Democratic Presidential nomination.

"I probably inspired a dream or two in my heyday."

Dynasty babe Emma Samms is 48 today.

Talk with you 3-7.

Andy Pettitte came up very small last night. But as always classily faced the media music after the game. 3rd year in a row his ERA is over 4. Basically mediocre for 16 mil this season.

Future Astro #2 starter Ben Sheets threw 6 shutout innings as the Brewers destroyed the Cardinals. Last time the Brewers made the playoffs their 1st baseman was much leaner than Prince Fielder.

Cecil Cooper on the show today @ 3:20. ReCoop in the 5:00 hour.

"If I hadn't died 36 years ago I'd be 100 today."

Actually, he most certainly would have died between then and now but you get the point.

The Yankees are done.

Talk with you 3-7.

"Will Rockets' fans chant 'D.J., D.J.' at my kid?"

Straw's son should make the team.
Can you tell where this card pic was taken?

Brewers-Cardinals, Mets-Phillies, Red Sox-Yankees all start matchups tonight.

We get Astros-Reds.

"I may be asking the Giants for 12 mil to come back!"

8 probably would get it done.

Her hits to looks ratio is extremely low.
That would be true if she had 10 hits. She's had one.

Talk with you 3-7.
