If you missed the brief preview of the OKC-LAL series that the TNT crew whipped through - you missed this fantastic exchange b/w Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny Smith & Charles Barkley. Rockets fans, you'll love this revisionist history from Shaq.
Ernie: "What's your early take, Shaquille O'Neal, on how this series is gonna go?"
Shaq: "The only thing that scares me about this game is OKC had 8 days off. Usually in a playoff situation when you have that many days off, you come out rusty. I can remember when we played Houston in our first finals, we beat the great Michael Jordan, we had 17 days off. We practiced for three days, two days off, then we when we came into game 1..."
Kenny: "17 days off??"
Shaq: "17 days off...and then when we came into game 1 we were very rusty. That's why they beat us in the finals that year."
Charles: "First of all they had a better team."
Shaq: "Oh stop it - we beat 'em three times straight."
Kenny: "I'll let Charles speak for our sweep."
Shaq: "We beat ya'll three times straight."
Kenny: "Ok, I'm just saying."
Charles: "Not when it counted."

Exactly how wrong was Shaq - Let's find out...
- Unless Shaq was taking a veiled shot at the Pacers - the Magic beat Jordan's Bulls in 6 games in the Eastern semis in a series that ended May 18th. They then played a 7 game sseries with the Pacers, obviously winning 4 games to 3. That series ended on a Sunday (June 4th) in Orlando, they started their finals series with Houston that Wednesday, June 7th. - that's two, count 'em two off days.
- Shaq claimed they beat the Rockets 3 straight times. He must be talking about the regular season, since Orlando has never beaten Houston in the playoffs...ever. But even in the regular season, that statement is still bogus. They obviously didn't play 3 times during the regular season, but the Magic did win both games that season. However, they didn't win the final game between them the previous season, so even that is off base.
Awesome that it was Charles - who is the only player in studio wth no titles - uttered the "not when it counted" line to Shaq.
Eat it, Shaq.
